You Talkin To me ?!

18 07 2006

This may be the first time in my life I fully realize what people mean by “Swa2et Shuferyet Takasi”… no I haven’t been away… I’ve been driving in the lovely streets of Amman for 6 years now and I’ve seen how Taxi drivers push their way through the traffic; jamming, squeezing and racing just to beat you to that RED traffic light by 5 seconds!
Yet seeing it is something and living it is something else! Amazing experience …

It all started with a misfortunate event… when I went down to get something from a store and left a friend of mine in the car… 10 minutes later; that friend shows up at the store to tell me he had a ‘little’ accident… with MY car!

Ma 3aleina bitoul elsireh… since then, and till I get the car fixed, I need to use the public transportation… AKA: TAXIs!

Might sound awkward to you but I’m amazed by this ‘experience’, the language these drivers use, their comments on everything and everyone in the street, their smoke rising up the “No smoking” sign, the platinum ceiling (which by the way I still don’t get what the heck is it for), the tasteless music…the luxury of sitting back to watch the beautiful city of Amman… sha3taleh 3al akher… but it’s nice… for a while that is!

Can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of my ‘3azeeza’… till then; I need to sort out what’s left of it ; and catch another cab home!

what's left

Being a daily cabs rider, I know what you are talking about; their comments on everything, the way they try to start a conversation with you about whatever subject, their crazy driving, etc.

But you know what, I kinda like it; its like you are visiting a new home everyday and discovering a new mentality. At the end, the cab is the driver’s home!

I spend my time in the cab trying to analyze the driver’s personality based on the decoration of his cab, his driving, his talking. It’s time-killing fun!

PS: I think that the platinium ceiling is a nylon cover they put to keep the roof clean from dust, beside the thought that its cool :)

To tell the truth, I really don’t care how the driver looks, how he speaks, and whatever he is doing, as long as he doesn’t smell!! at least you sit in the back seat, so don’t worry, you’re safe!!… Anyway, long ago, I took a cab with an old man who I think is dead now, he started to show me his teeth and how he’s planning to get rid of some of them… by the way, he called his car 3azeezeh as well… and by the way you drive, you’re almost a taxi driver :)
Cheers.. and amazing Blog
